Terms

This is the agreement between you and Birthday Book. It is written to be read, not to be survived — if a line here is unclear, ask and we'll fix the line. Nothing on this page takes away the rights you have as a consumer under UK law.

Who you're dealing with

Birthday Book (birthdaybook.app) is run by The Online Studio 24 Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, number 06298699, registered office 18 Brushwood Drive, Chorleywood, Rickmansworth WD3 5RT. “We” means that company. hello@birthdaybook.app reaches a person. What we do with the details you give us is a separate promise, kept on the privacy page.

What's free, and what isn't

Keeping a book is free: unlimited people, reminders, the card wall, guest links, joining, and connecting your book to another family's. We don't intend to charge for remembering a birthday.

Money only changes hands when you ask us to send something into the real world — chiefly a printed card, posted to the person whose birthday it is. The price and the delivery estimate are shown in full before you pay, and that is the price you pay.

Your account

You sign in with a link or a six-digit code sent to your email address, so whoever can read your email can open your book. Keep that address secure and don't forward sign-in emails. Tell us if you think someone else has got in. You need to be 16 or over to hold an account.

The people in your book

You add other people's names, dates and sometimes addresses. By doing that you're telling us you have a genuine reason to hold those details — they're your family and friends — and that you'll take a person out if they ask you to. We act on your instructions about your own book. Anyone can write to us directly to be removed from it, and we'll do it.

What you and your family write

Messages on a card wall, notes on a gift, the words inside a card: they're yours. You give us permission to store them, show them to the people you shared them with, and print them onto a card when you ask for one — and nothing else. Don't post anything unlawful, abusive, or that you don't have the right to use, and don't use the wall to reach someone who doesn't want to hear from you. We can remove content or close a book over any of that.

Printed cards

Group pots

A pot records promises between people. We never hold, collect, transfer or handle anyone's money, and we're not a payment service. Who actually pays whom, and whether they do, is between you — if someone doesn't chip in, that's a conversation for your family and not a matter we can settle.

Gift links

We link out to shops. We don't sell those things, don't stock them, and can't stand behind them — your purchase is with that retailer under their terms. Where a link earns us a commission it never changes the price you pay, and it's all set out on how we're funded.

Reminders are a help, not a guarantee

We take reminders seriously and send them on a schedule you control. But email can be delayed, filtered or refused by a mail provider, and a service can be down. Please don't rely on us as the only thing standing between you and your mother's birthday — export the calendar feed from Settings and keep a copy.

Ending it

You can leave whenever you like. Settings has a delete button that is immediate and real: your account, the books you own, and everything in them. We may suspend or close a book that's being used to harass someone, to break the law, or to attack the service — and we'll say why unless we're legally prevented from doing so. Any card you've paid for still gets sent.

Where we stand if something goes wrong

We don't limit our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit. Beyond that: the service is provided as it is, we can't promise it's uninterrupted or error-free, and our total liability to you is limited to what you've paid us in the twelve months before the problem. In particular we're not liable for a birthday you forgot, a present that didn't arrive from a shop, or a surprise that got spoiled.

Changes

If these terms change in a way that matters, signed-in members get an email saying what changed and why, before it takes effect. Small corrections happen on this page.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts there can hear any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK you keep the right to bring a claim in your own country's courts.
